The Progressive Physiotherapy Team

Progressive Physiotherapy was founded in 2006 by highly experienced Chartered Physiotherapists Susie Yardley and Claudia Hughes. We are all experienced, professional Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists, each with our own specialist areas and interests.
Our staff strive for clinical excellence across all aspects of care for our patients. We offer a holistic approach that goes beyond simply treating an injury. Our ability to co-ordinate a range of professional expertise means you receive the most appropriate treatment for your injury and therefore ensure timely results.

Claudia Hughes

Claudia has over 30 years experience in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. She has a breadth of knowledge and expertise in treating all things musculoskeletal and has a special clinical interest in the treatment of necks, headaches, PGP and complex conditions. She is particularly skilled in hands on techniques and uses these in combination with exercises, advice, acupuncture and taping to take a holistic approach to physiotherapy. With a background in the NHS Claudia has worked in private practice for many years and has an excellent relationship with the local GP practices as well as consultants in Oxford, Swindon and further afield. Claudia is a keen swimmer and plays tenor horn in Wantage Silver Band

Tanya Smit

Tanya has over 20 years’ experience in MSK and community physiotherapy as an NHS and private physiotherapist. She is skilled at diagnosing and treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions with a special interest in shoulder, neck and other postural problems. She also has a wealth of experience in the rehabilitation of hip and knee replacements as well as any and all fractures, muscle sprains and strains (specialising in fractured neck of femurs) to help people return to their work, hobbies, sport and passions prior to surgery or after injury.

Toby is a MSK Physiotherapist and qualified sports masseuse, with experience diagnosing and treating a range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. He is passionate about helping patients remain active throughout treatment, with the intention of returning to/surpassing previous level of function and playing ability. Toby has particular interest in treating runners, golfers and young athletes. He also runs Progressive Physiotherapy’s new exercise class and takes patients on a 1:1 basis in the pool for Aquatherapy.

Laura Pittard

Laura splits her time between NHS work and private work at Progressive Physiotherapy. She has particular experience in the community setting and expertise in Parkinson’s services as well as musculoskeletal. She is passionate about enhancing patients’ health, function and strength through evidence based exercise, strength and conditioning. Laura is an elite athlete (cycling) competing at national level and has an interest in working with sportspeople (at all levels), in addition to physiotherapy she can offer sports massage therapy and sports injury taping.

Susie Yardley

Susie has nearly 30 years of experience as a Physiotherapist. Founder of Progressive Physiotherapy with Claudia in 2006 (but no longer a Director), she has in recent years taken on a more administrative role. Whilst no longer working clinically, Susie is happy to consider one off sessions for anyone suspecting or diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis (Rheumatoid, Psoriatic and many more) as she is passionate about helping people to get an early diagnosis and helping them manage their symptoms to help them lead as normal and healthy life as possible. Having lived with Rheumatoid Arthritis herself for over 10 years she has personal experience of the ups and downs of these conditions as well as a huge knowledge of the treatments and best physiotherapy management of these conditions. She also has excellent links with local Rheumatologists.
